The Kumon Method aims for students to go beyond their school grade level through self-learning and advance to studying high school level material at an early age.

When studying at the “just-right” level students think for themselves and complete the exercises. When they get stuck they look at the hints and examples incorporated in the worksheets and figure out themselves how to do the exercises. In this way, continued study at the “just-right” level fosters the ability to learn on their own, or as we say at Kumon, “self-learn.”

Students then use that self-learning ability to advance independently beyond their school grade level to higher levels and more difficult exercises.

Thus Kumon study makes it possible for students to advance to high school level material at an early age.

To sum up, the Kumon Method is a learning method that pursues the potential of each individual student and develops his or her ability to the maximum.

We at Kumon believe in the vast potential of our students and want to further develop each student’s ability. Born out of the bond between a parent and child, the Kumon Method of learning faithfully carries on the thinking and ideas of its founder Toru Kumon. At the same time, we constantly strive for something better by continuing to develop our worksheets and instruction method. And today, this learning method continues to go beyond the borders of countries, race, culture and traditions, to reach more and more countries and regions throughout the world.

Mathematics

Mastering calculation skills to progress into high school mathematics

Characteristics of the Math Program

Worksheets with 20 levels starting from 6A to Level O and five elective courses. The worksheets focus on the development of strong calculation skills and, by avoiding all unrelated concepts, aim to allow the student to advance as quickly as possible on their own to high school mathematics. Based on his experience as a high school mathematics teacher, the founder, Toru Kumon, was convinced that mastering calculation was the key to enabling students to later apply other mathematical concepts.

English (EE)

Developing excellent English reading skills as well as reading habits

Characteristics of the English (EE) Program

Strong reading comprehension skills are fundamental not only for the study of English but also for accessing all other subjects in school. EE Program for native speakers aims to improve students’ reading comprehension skills and nurture an interest in reading, which will enable them to read widely and with confidence.
The EE Program begins by enriching students’ vocabulary and teaching basic reading skills. Students go on to learn about sentence structure, paragraph building, summarization and critical reading.

English (EFL)

Developing excellent standard written English comprehension skills

Characteristics of the English (EFL) Program

Through the Kumon English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Program students can enjoy learning English while developing strong reading comprehension ability.

Students can expand their vocabulary and learn new grammar elements while reproducing some of the English sentences they read in the passages.

Also, students become familiar with everyday-use dialogues and learn to write letters and connect them with sounds and images through tracing and reading.

Our individualised self-learning method ensures that every child progresses at a level that matches their ability. This means that your child can advance beyond their school grade level, with our carefully-designed learning materials that take students from preschool to university.

Aged 5 – 12

Cultivates Independence

The Kumon worksheets are designed to foster self-learning and independent study, where students are taught to solve problems by themselves.

There are sufficient examples and explanations within each worksheet to encourage students to ask and answer questions on their own. When students complete the worksheets, they learn how to set goals, and solve unfamiliar and challenging tasks, developing independence and tenacity in your child’s character

Aged 13 and above

Gain Life Skills

Apart from the world of academia, Kumon believes in developing important life skills through the Kumon Method.

Picking up skills such as self-discipline and time management, they also gain confidence in their abilities, a healthy level of self-esteem, and a drive to overcome challenges.
